Day 2 of 5 Days of Snow

We got a little surprise yesterday and picked up 6 inches of snow from the snow showers Friday afternoon. We had a break this morning but the next system is already pushing toward the area.

This afternoon we should see light snow showers break out again. As the warmer air tries to push in and overrides the cold air in place the snow showers should continue through Sunday. Right now the forcing is weak and there is not that much moisture available so only expected a dusting again this afternoon and again tonight. The forecast models are a little at odds for Sunday on total snowfall amounts. Some are showing only light amounts of snowfall again Sunday afternoon while others bring in 3-6 inches.

A little more agreement on Monday as a strong storm hits the Pacific NW and we are on the Southern fringe with light snowfall. The forecast models are agreeing on another 3-6 inches of snow. Then on Tuesday more disagreement as the cold front blasts through bringing more snow. The some models bring in enough moisture for another 3-6 inches while others enough to drop another foot of snow.
Total 3 day snowfall amounts have a big range due to the inconsistency this morning. Totals possible of 9-24 inches at the base and 12-30 inches on the mountain. Hopefully will be able to fine tune a little better tomorrow morning.

We clear out Wednesday and it will be another cold day. A large low pressure system will be dropping out of the Gulf of Alaska towards the West Coast by Thursday. Meanwhile the ridge will be building in over the Rockies and the trough will dig off the West Coast stalling the storm off the coast. It will pick up lots of moisture off the Pacific and will bring a big snow storm, the question is when it will push inland.

The forecast models don't agree on the timing. Some runs have a wave or two coming inland ahead of the main low as early as Thursday night and Friday. Others keep all precip to our North until the main low pushes inland. Then timing differences on when that is. Some model runs have the storm pushing in next Saturday and other have it holding off until Sunday night. The timing will make a big difference for weekend travel to the area. The one thing that does seem likely right now is that the storm will bring quite a bit of snow once it does push inland.
