Beautiful weather this weekend. I took some turns on the mountain yesterday and it was amazing how cold it was in the parking lot and then how warm it was at 9,000 ft. with the inversions. The snow was nice and soft though and the sun was warm.
Similar weather will last through Tuesday before a weakening cold front approaches on Wednesay. This front looks like it will lose most of its moisture by the time it reaches the area. We may just see some wind and slightly colder temperatures. Maybe a few flakes of snow.
The pattern remains progressive and more active as we move forward. Next weekend another cold front approaches but this one is stronger. The forecast models are still at odds in how they are handling the front next weekend and the difference is several inches or several feet of snow.
The GFS forecast model moves the front through next weekend with colder air and several inches of snow Sunday into Monday. The ECMWF forecast model continues to show much more precip. It combines the trough from the Northwest with moisture from the South and stalls low pressure along the CA coast creating a multi-day snowfall event Saturday through the following Tuesday with several feet of snow.
I would like to see the GFS and other forecast models jump on board as well though before becoming too excited. We will have to keep watching each run over the next few days.
After next weekend the storms look to continue just to our North and then eventually pushing further South going through the first week of February. The 2 week dry spells look like they may be done for the time being.
