Mild Weather Continues Then Cold and Snow Day 6

We are seeing some clouds this morning but we should see more sun this afternoon with highs in the 40's. The weather continues to be sunny, dry, and mild through Wednesday.

Still watching the system for Thursday into Friday. It may be similar to last weekend's system but hopefully a bit more snow. Expecting much colder air to move in with the could trough lasting into next weekend. The snow showers Thursday and Friday look to bring only inches of snow.

After that we may have another week of ridging off the coast and dry conditions. We may begin to see the storms return after mid-month. The MJO convection is on the move finally and moving pretty quickly towards Africa. Once into the Indian Ocean we would expect the trough to return to the West.

Here is the discussion from the CPC from Monday, before the MJO started to move again this week.

"For the U.S., the MJO favors, on average, split flow and ridging across the western U.S. and a mean trough across the east until about mid-February. Thereafter, the MJO would support a tendency for a mean trough to develop across the western U.S. especially towards the last week of February."

The other teleconnection patterns don't overly favor a ridge in the West and trough in the East. The pattern seems to be driven by the enhanced MJO activity. Hoping rubber band theory to takes affect and we snap back to 6+ weeks of above average snowfall following the 6+ weeks of below average.
