14 Inches Overnight!

Sierra has picked up a fresh 14 inches as of the 5 a.m. measurements and the snow is still falling. This is a couple inches more than expected as we were only expecting up to a foot at most up top. We'll take it!

The temperatures have been falling all night and are down into the single digits above 8000 feet this morning, and in the teens here at the base. That means the snow that has been falling since 5 a.m. has been very light and fluffy. The cold unstable air should cause snow showers to increase today. We could see another inch or two through this evening on the mountain depending on where the snow showers fall.

With a ridge of high pressure amplifying North off the coast and a cold trough funneling lots of cold from the North into the Western U.S., we will see very cold temps through Monday. Highs will be in the low to mid 20's at the base and in the teens on the mountain.

There will be plenty of sun but there are also some weak waves of moisture that will drop down from the North over the weekend. We could see a few scattered snow showers on Sunday with maybe a dusting of snow.

Next week the ridge begins to build in over the West Coast. We should see temperatures begin to moderate into the 30's and then even warmer by next weekend. We may have another 2 weeks of sun before the storms return.

We have been talking about the possibility of a pattern shift back to a stormy pattern beyond the 20th, and the forecast models are now showing that potential shift towards the end of the 2 week forecast.
