Fresh Snow Tonight, Cold Going Forward

A very cold airmass is about to blast in with the cold front tonight. The moisture is very limited with this system but the air is really cold so we will squeeze every last flake possible out of the atmosphere and we will have the fluff factor with high snow ratios. Expecting 3-6 inches at the base, and 5-10 inches on the mountain through Thursday morning.

We could see a few snow showers around Thursday but expecting the sun to return. The ridge of high pressure will amplify North off the coast and lots of cold air will be dropping into the Western U.S., East of the ridge, into the beginning of next week. Highs won't get out of the 20's for us here at the base. There will be a weak system dropping down the West Coast Sunday. Some forecast models keep it offshore and others drop it right over us. So there is a chance we could see some light snow showers Sunday.

The ridge off the coast will continue to block storms throught next week. We saw this quick pattern change for the 10th coming for a while but it is very short lived. After the snow tonight we should see another dry spell for 10 days up to 2 weeks. Still watching for a pattern change after the 20th.

The long-range climate models continues to forecast above average precip for CA after the 20th right through the beginning of February. We will be cold through the beginning of next week but as the ridge move towards and over the West Coast we could see a warmup the end of next week and into the following week.
