Snow Next Week

No changes in the forecast today as we are experiencing the ground hog day affect of the same thing everyday through Monday. Sun and highs in the 40's.

Everything still on track for the storm moving in Tuesday night into Wednesday that we have been tracking all week. There will be a storm splitting as it hits the ridge this weekend with a piece then sitting off Baja CA.

Some of the questions with the system for next week are whether the system to the South moves inland ahead of it or is drawn North into the storm, and how far South the low digs as it comes inland . The difference would be the amount of precip and initial snow levels. Right now this doesn't look like a big storm, but has the potential to bring a nice little dump of snow.

Yesterday the forecast models suggested the trough over the East is a little more stubborn to move out and allow the ridge over the West to move East. That would weaken the system for next week. I didn't see anything that would anchor the trough in the East and the models show it sliding off the coast again today.

There could be another system dropping in next Thursday and Friday from the NE Pacific. The GFS long-range forecast keeps the trough along the West coast keeping the storm door open week 2. The European models show a ridge building back in week 2. I think the long-range models are going to struggle as the MJO begins to progress over the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully this snow drought is coming to an end soon...
