Big Changes Coming...

Spring skiing again today along with lots of soft snow on the mountain.

Tomorrow we will start to cool as a storm moves through the Pacific NW. Then the cold trough approaches on Monday and will move in on Tuesday with snow. The forecast model runs all had about the same amount of precip for the Tahoe Basin this morning. They all have the center of the low moving down right over CA and then into NV with precip lingering into Wednesday as the low departs.

With all the cold air behind the front the snow ratios will be pretty high into Tuesday night. No change in my thoughts on the snowfall forecast over the past few days. Right now it looks like 6-12 inches for the base with 12-18 inches on the mountain.

The next system will come down more over land with less moisture from off the Pacific so only light amounts of snow expected Thursday into Friday. Next weekend another low will drop down from the North and looks like it could be an inside slider system to our East with light snowfall for the Sierra. So overall a much colder and snowier week ahead.

Looking at week 2 it looks like we could see another moderate sized storm with the forecast models holding the ridge to the North of Hawaii. Towards the end of week 2 there is still a stronger storm potential showing up with a strong low in the Gulf of Alaska. The GFS tries to build a ridge over the West and limits how much the strong jet digs down the coast, but the Euro keeps the trough along the West Coast.
