Bring the Sunscreen

After another cold day today the temperatures will be on the rise up into the 40's starting tomorrow and then the 50's by the end of the week, with plenty of sunshine. That is due to the ridge of high pressure that is going to be sitting along the West Coast through Saturday.

The next system will try to drop in on Sunday. Some forecast models try to bring in some light snow, while others keep the system to our North and East. The good news is that this is in response to the ridge beginning to setup further offshore between 140-150w next week. The system on Sunday will just be the start of colder air and moisture trying to drop down from the North.

As we go through next week another cold system will try to drop down the coast Tuesday, another Thursday, and another the following weekend. This is the cold and light snow pattern we have been looking at for week 2.

As we go into week 3 we are hoping for further retrogression of the ridge and some bigger storms. We are hoping that will help open up the trough and bring some storm from off the Pacific with more moisture instead of the moisture starved systems we have been seeing dropping down the coast. The current teleconnection forecasts support this.

Good news is that after this week the pattern looks a lot more active so we will have more to talk about. Hopefully a big storm shows up in the forecast this week.
