Sunny & Mild Week Ahead

The conditions were pretty good yesterday morning with some fressh snow on top of soft groomers. Obviously it has been a long time since we have had a big powder day, but considering the big storm drought the conditions are good.

After one more storm to our North Monday night the pattern is going to change for the second half of the week. The ridge will build over the Western U.S. bringing warming temps and cutting off the storms into the West Coast. With the ridge over the West the trough will be off the coast and the jet stream aimed up into Canada.

The forecast models attempt to push the trough into the ridge next weekend. The Canadian forecast model forms a cut-off low and sends it into the Sierra next Sunday. The rest of the forecast models push a storm into the Pacific NW with Northern CA on the Southern edge.

There is more and more agreement among the forecast models that the next storm will dig further South bringing snow to the Sierra around the 6th. The jet stream may dive into the West Coast bringing a couple of stronger storms for week 2. This is the first sign of bigger storms rolling in off the Pacific since December. The teleconnection patterns are still not forecast to be favorable for a trough along the West Coast the next 2 weeks. But the strong jet stream may flatten the ridge off the coast enough to push storms into CA.
