Here It Comes

Not too many changes in the forecast other than to expand the higher end of the possible totals with the increase in total precip by some forecast models.

The storm has slowed a little. We will see winds increasing today with ridge wind gusts nearing 100 mph tonight. That is a good sign as we need strong West winds for good spill over the the crest. We may see light snow on the mountain by this evening but the heaviest snow will hold off until the early morning hours or near dawn. The heavy snow will turn more showery by Wednesday evening.

Total snowfall by Wednesday evening 6-9 inches at the base and 10-15 inches on the mountain.

Then we will we see continued snow showers Wednesday night through Thursday night as low pressure spins down the coast. As it moves inland to our South on Friday some forecast models, especially the Euro, show continued snow showers. Through Friday we could see the amounts from Wednesday doubled. We won't know the totals until the snow report Saturday morning if the snow showers continue through Friday.

Storm totals by the time we tally it up Saturday morning of 12-21 inches at base and 15-30 inches on the mountain.

It's a big spread due to the the possible tracks of the low coming down the coast Thursday and Friday. If it's closer we get the higher end and further West and South we get the lower end. Let's hope things go our way for once.

The ridge builds in quickly off the coast this weekend and temperatures will near 50 by Sunday and into early next week. Some of the forecast models show ridging staying in place through next week keeping us dry until the weekend. Others show a cold trough digging down the West Coast starting next Tuesday and linking up with moisture from a low to the North of Hawaii. That would bring quite a bit of snow by the end of next week and beyond.

So next week is still looking really interesting. Let's hope this pattern comes through next week.
